Since the beginning of flour, somewhere in the side roads of time, many a woman have rolled up their sleeves and gotten busy.

And the hip movement accompanied with the said 'getting busy' has caught my attention lately. Is there any way to sieve flour without looking like you're actually getting busy in tune to Sean Paul's Get Busy?

Last night I got a male hamster, Mode, and my brother and I noticed some ,ahem, anatomical differences between Ollie and Mode.

Mode had some rather large...testicles.

So we put them both on the table top , examining the both of them, hanging in a cloud of suspicion and doubt when- bam! it happened.

They had sex.

Yup.

i was beaten up tonight.

with a ball.

by a two year old.

now before i go on, let me just say that this post is a result of constant "don't u blog anymore" ' s and i am in no way to be held responsible for the interestingness of the content.

there.

anyway, i went over to a cousin's house this evening, and was asked to briefly babysit this lil kid. now don't get me wrong.. i don't hate hate kids... but I'm not their number one fan either.

this kid seemed harmless enough [ he couldn't talk yet] and he was playing around with this ball. so i decided to play a little bit of catch with him.

i picked up the ball and threw it at him.

he laughed delightedly and picked it up.

and then he threw it back.

hard.

and it was cute first u know.. i was all 'heyyy, this kids got strength, cooool. '

but pretty soon i was thinking things more along the lines of ' SAAVE MEE! IT HURRRTS!'

so you see.
i was beaten up. by a ball. by a two year old.

but then it was okay later on. i was compensated for the suffering. it came in the form of cockatoos, iguanas, african greys, chinchillas, rabbits, Russian hamsters, baby hamsters, guinea pigs, birds birds,and did i mention that the iguana had a certain affinity for the top of my head?

when i came home,though, and picked up Ollie, he was sniffing suspiciously at my hand and giving me a wounded look.

ah well, you can't win them all.

i discover that there is a very clever technique used to eat sushi.

it consists of practicing and perfecting a chant that you MUST be able to repeat without any mistakes.

this post is probably proof that i have been studying too much. [by my standards] .
but bear with me eh?

last night , as i was reading my genetics notes this bizarre thought struck me. now i realize that there is probably a very good reason why they don't do this but well... i sure as heck don't know any such reasons to stop me from wondering.

so apparently the Y chromosome in the male sperm is practically.. well.. empty.

majority of the sexual characteristics that determine the sex of the embryo are present in genes on the rest of the chromosomes. now i'm not totally disregarding the Y, or X chromosome , from the male, its just that it got me thinking.

What if, ..[this is a very BIG what if, mind you.]

what if we extract a haploid number of chromosomes from a FEMALE gamete and insert it into an egg? would that still work? theoretically speaking its almost the same thing as a sperm with an X chromosome penetrating the egg.

isn't it?

and before i get a lot of comments saying that i might have a god complex or meddling with god's creations is unethical if not immoral i just want to say: I KNOW! its not like i'm actually gonna do it. i'm just curious.

saw him sleeping in a construction area on that joali when i peeped out of the window this afternoon. either he really likes that joali or was so exhausted that he collapsed there.
stupid maldivians >.< why cant we do our own work by ourselves?

apart from that i love this. this has to be my first black and white in which the tones are exactly as i want it to be. the areas i want to be light are light vice versa. now i just need to be better at focusing. auto focus is annoying. i had to take this half a dozen times to get it like that. the camera kept focusing on the wooden thingy.

[oh wait, he just woke up. let me put him in his cage so he can eat]
[back to my story]

i heard some scrambling and being in need of comfort i took him out thinkin he was awake. but he was only cleaning himself in his sleep [ yea he does that, along with eating in his sleep and lots of moving around] and then when i put him in my hands he just lay there.

i melted.
i was a pool of mush.

he was fast asleep. IN MY HANDS! he trusted me!!

so i was sittin on the chair, frozen scared to even move lest i woke him up. and i felt so happy. that was truly a perfect moment right there. i felt blessed. i thanked god.

and then my hand started to hurt.
and went numb.

so i gently lowered my hand on to my lap, and in one fluid motion that would have even shocked the hell out of superman, ollie was now snuggled in my lap. [there were no witnesses to disprove that i was graceful!]

and he slept.
and slept.

he would move around every minute or so to change position [ and let me tell you, that lil dude is mighty comfortable in the most weirdest positions!] and then at one point..[this is my favourite part] HE MADE HIS VERY FIRST SOUND!

i swear!

i have had him for what? a month now? and i have never ever heard him even squeak. not even when he was almost falling this one time. nu-uh.
and oh my lap.
he let out this little sound that i can only decipher as a sneeze.
yes. he sneezed in my lap. and dont u dare start with him being allergic to me jokes!! [SILENCE! I KILL YOU!]
It was just one sneeze. so i dont think he has a cold. nothing to worry about.

he's asleep in his cage now. his bottom half in his wheel and the top part out. i toldya his sleeping positions were weird.

thats a shot i took today. hes eating a piece of boiled potato. :)

i THINK he's a he. not quite sure.

he's been adjusting well to the new surroundings. knows my scent well enough now. but he wont sit in my hand for extended periods yet.

he's very very stubborn sometimes. like when he wants to sleep. nothing, and when i say nothing i mean NOTHING, can disturb him. you can poke him or whatever but he will just fix you with an evil eye and go right back to sleep.

sometimes he wakes up in the middle of his nap hungry. he usually eats sitting right smack in the middle of his food dish. half the time his eyes wont even be properly open. and he will go back to sleep immediately after feeding.

this one time, we took him out just as he woke up from his nap. we tried feeding him with our hands and to our delight he gobbled the food right up! but he didnt eat it. no, he just stuffed it in his cheek pockets. [yea he has cheek pockets, go figure] and then he was running around frantically. i thought he was thirsty so i put him back in his cage. to our suprise he crawled into the food bowl and started pulling out all the food out of his mouth into the bowl. and then ate it up again. slowly, and properly this time.

one of his hind legs are missing. i didn't notice it when i brought him home. but he still gets around pretty well. u should see him climbing all over his cage. and by god, can he run in that wheel!

The amazing adventures of Ollie

also known as " The day i nearly had a Mrf 1000 heart attack"

the day (today) began as any other day would. Sun rising from the east, Fureyni and Bird screeching at the top of their voices etc etc. i was woken up rather rudely to Hanan's excited whispering.

See last night i had purchased a hamster. for one thousand ruffiya. now people might think of it as a bit much and perhaps it is, but i have never had a pet of my own that i could cuddle or openly interact with. Fureyni was my brother's, Bird( a lovebird) was too wild, and the fishes dont count.
So after much persuading dad, i now own a hamster. Ollie.

anyway, mom managed to convince hanan to go away and let me sleep. but not for long. a short while later i was woken up again. i looked up to see Hanan on a stool peering into the hamster cage. can't say i blame her. he was the cutest thing.

So since i was supposed to take him out around twice a day any way, i let Ollie out.

before i go any further, let me give you an idea of what my rather clustered room looks like.
So anyway, i get up and prop various items into the top corners so that Ollie wouldnt squeeze through them. and i prop the "kanneyo" (long pillows) behind me making a tight little square.

and then, i let Ollie out.

it was delightful! he ran around sniffing into our hands and everywhere. and every five minutes or so, he would stop and clean himself. it was precious watching him lick his tiny little paws and then run them through his fur!

it was all going very well. incredibly well. until....

until he slipped from my hands.

He squeezed between the guitar and stuffed cat and went thru the crack and behind the big cupboard! dear god in heaven, i was scared shitless.
i screamed for mom and yanked a plank between the two cupboards so that it wont run thru the crack.
mom came up and tut-tutted while i walked to and fro wringing my hands. and then, we came up with THE PLAN.

THE PLAN

remove the smaller cupboard
broom out Ollie from the crack

it was a simple enough plan. but it lacked manpower. see my dad is in Sri Lanka. so i called up Hassan and Zain, and both assured me that they were on their way.

and then, just as i finished the call, entered the Hero of the story.
my little brother.

i told him what happened and after much laughing in my face he agreed to help. and god bless the boy, he moved up the cupboard enough so that i could squeeze thru. but alas. no sign of Ollie. i was close to tears then. [not really, but then whats a good story without the girl being close to tears? ] he told me in not so many words to get my useless butt out of the way and let him handle it.

so there he was crouching next to the crack behind the big cupboard with a broom in his hand, and there was me nearly having a heart attack. MY DAD WAS GOING TO KILL ME!

Hass and Zain came in then, along with two cousins of Hass's.

and as we stood there contemplating how to get Ollie out, and telling me how outrageously expensive Ollie was [ Hanan wasnt helping either, she kept saying that Ollie was going to die, the little brat] my brother stood up with a wicked grin on his face.

Ollie was saved!

Lord alone knows though, what traumas he went thru behind that cupboard and how many dust balls he swallowed. *shudder* Ollie i mean. not my brother.

hes safely back in his cage now. you should see him. i would show you, but sadly my laptop has gotten kapootze again and and i have to install the canon software into my dads laptop if i want to upload any pictures, and quite frankly i cant be bothered to.

so pray my laptop snaps out of its coma soon eh?

ps. all you wise guys wanting to make cracks about how Bulhaa is having a rodent, you can shove that thought up ur asses.

pps. also in all the excitement Bird was lost. See my brother was previously letting out the birds and somehow Bird escaped. *sigh* Well he made up for it with Ollie i guess. Fly safe, Bird!

this is a story that took place in the kidney of Male'; A quaint little capital, if you had the heart for crowded streets, endless rows of buildings and congested air. and unlike many other stories that have been told about this place, i intend to tell you a tale that is both shocking and yet still undeniably true.

you see, in this quaint little capital, in a quaint little street, stood a quaint not so little tree.

this tree has stood there for many years, growing proudly and tall. and im quite suprised actually, that no one has stepped up to tell this tale afore me.

this tree was magical. for it bore the most unique fruit.

yes my friends, this tree was special indeed. for atop its branches lay clothes of various kinds.

the other night i had a dream.
in one particular scene, i see a bunch of men carrying the body of a dying giraffe. apparently it was washed up on the shore. and as we all stood gawking , it gives birth. and then died.

anyway i take the baby home with me, wash it, clean it and stuff. but this is the weirdest part. it was a baby monkey. the giraffe gave birth to a monkey. and it was the cutest little thing ever.

but thats not the weirdest part yet.

my dad left for Lanka the next day, and guess what my little sister wants him to bring back?

a toy monkey.

Because the last time i checked, no one has yet build a device which can measure the 'life importance' of different species. And until somebody does, I'm sure as hell going to be adamant that the value of every life, big or small, creepy or disgusting, is the same. That we are all equals.

Why? Well if u ask me that, I'm going to have to go into a whole other theory which involves food chains and ecological balance n yada yada. Which i don't want to do right now.

Anyway back to me being sick. Let me tell you the story behind the spider.

I spotted it in the bathroom
Rushed in there fully equipped with the camera
Couldn't take a proper shot because my hand was shaking so badly. The spider was HUGE. Of course i was scared!
My camera decides to die out on me
Mom convinces my little brother to kill the spider 'cos apparently the bathroom was only big enough for one of them. It was either her, or the spider. And well, she needed to use the bathroom
I tell my brother to not to 'squish it'
I pack away the dead spider in a box while my camera is being recharged
And then, when it was fully charged...i take out the spider, and THEN take the pictures.

Now you tell me.

Am i not sick?
Have i not used the spider's death for my own selfish purposes?
Don't people, photographers, artists etc, all over the world do the exact same thing?

In one breath we fight for animal rights, in the other we use them mercilessly. Like slaves. [Its quite one thing if it were a symbiotic relationship, but most of the time that isn't the case]

We are all hypocrites.
